"Emergent Behavior," Curie's companion quest, is triggered when Curie asks the player about furthering her research. Concerned about her lack of progression in understanding medicine in the apocalypse, Curie has concluded that her status as a robot prevents her from becoming a great scientist and doctor. One of the more involved and interesting companion quests belongs to Curie, a Miss Nanny unit from Vault 81, whose companion quest is unlocked after performing enough heroic and selfless acts as she follows the player. These companion quests are often only received after the player has developed enough of an "affinity" with them, which is done by performing actions that the companion likes. Many companions can join the player in Fallout 4, with several having their own individual character arcs that require the Sole Survivor's input on how to resolve them in the form of side quests.
